Something to do on my days off, basically.

Crucifixin's

In an almost final mark of desperation, Britney Spears will be guest-starring on the almost-defunct "Will & Grace" before its demise. I will say that the premise for the show actually sounds pretty funny, though, with Spears appearing as a Christian conservative on a show called "Crucifixin's."

No word yet whether or not her multi-talented and extra-fertile husband will be joining her for her gig on the small screen.

The Super Bowl of Award Shows.

The Academy Award nominations were announced today, and there aren't any real surprises on the list. I'm usually so pumped for the Oscars, but I'm really not this year. Admittedly, I've seen very few of the nominated films and performances, but I still can't get past the feeling that movies in general were just not very good this year. Maybe it's just me. All I can say is, I hope the dresses are fabulous. Other than that, I'm not all that excited to watch.

My review of the 2006 SAG awards.

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ....

What a snoozefest. I liked the acceptance speeches of Paul Giamatti, Reese Witherspoon, S. Epatha Markerson, Sean Hayes and Phillip Seymour Hoffman. I also enjoyed Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal presenting their clip of Brokeback Mountain. And I have to admit, I definitely laughed when Jamie Lee Curtis almost bit it on the stairs. Other than that, it was a complete waste of 2 hours.

Duh.

A Kentucky teacher was suspended with pay for showing The 40-Year-Old Virgin to his high school Spanish class. Apparently, a student brought it in and told him it was "very funny."

I am here to tell you that the movie is ridiculously funny. However, it is also really, really, really inappropriate to show as a part of a high school Spanish class. I can't figure out how that became a Spanish lesson... ?

RIP Chris Penn

Actor Chris Penn was found dead in a condominium in Santa Monica yesterday. There's no foul play suspected, but how much you want to bet they run a toxicology report?

Sorry. That's mean. I do feel bad.

Let's go, Flyers!

My dad and I went to see tonight's Flyers game against the Pittsburgh Penguins. I used to be such a huge hockey fan, and such a huge champion of the Flyers up until the NHL strike last year. Then I was turned off by the egos and the greed, etc. Going to the game tonight, though, made me remember how much fun it is to go to those games! It was a blast. Also, it was a great game -- the Flyers won it 4-2.

I think I might have to jump back on that bandwagon...

QLIL 2: Electric Bugaloo

Oh, Empress, why hast thou forsaken us?

It seems that the original Query Letters I Love blog is now defunct. I've been holding out strong hope that it would rise like a phoenix from the ashes, but no such luck. So I've linked to Query Letters I Love 2, started by Black Capricorn, that will take the original's place. Thanks to Black Capricorn, I can still laugh at other people's expense. Hooray!

Hello, I'm Johnny Cash.

Finally, FINALLY!! the boyfriend and I caught Walk the Line with Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon. I went into this movie not expecting much, to be honest -- I was excited to see it, but I was afraid it wouldn't live up to the hype. I was also a little concerned about how Phoenix and Witherspoon could nail John and June's characters. That's nothing against their acting abilities -- I think both are supremely talented, but I've been a big fan of Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash for a long time now. But I was pleasantly surprised! It was really a well done film, and I think Phoenix and Witherspoon did John and June justice, definitely. I can now say with certainty that they both deserved their Golden Globes, and I hope they win Oscars as well. I highly recommend this one!

Canine Partners for Life

I was reading one of the little local newspapers from our area this morning, and I came across an article about Darlene Sullivan, founder and executive director for Canine Partners for Life. She started CPL in 1989 in her home in Cochranville, PA, and since then it has continued to grow. Over 150 dogs have been placed in homes for people with special needs to help them in their everyday life. These are not seeing-eye dogs, but rather they are service dogs for people with mobility and self-care limitations. It's a really great program, and I can't wait to contribute and/or volunteer, and I am definitely adding them to my links. Click here if you'd like to make a donation.

Defamer on the Golden Globes: Much funnier than anything I could come up with.

I endured the 3 hours of the Golden Globes last night, and actually, I didn't think that it was overall that bad. George Clooney and Steve Carell were cracking me up all night, and so was Gwyneth Paltrow's dress. A few other moments of note: Gwyneth's annoying insistence upon calling Anthony Hopkins "Antony," Laura Linney being called Laura Linley in her nomination (it's fine, really... she's only been around forever and in everything), the obviousness of Ryan Phillippe's realization that his wife's star far outshines his own, the "Lost" guy thanking Steve Carell's wife, Drew Barrymore's nipples staring at me, and I'm sorry, but can the Desperate Housewives put on a more forced camaraderie? After that Vanity Fair ordeal, I don't believe that for a second. Teri Hatcher wants them all dead, and everyone knows it. On the other hand, Nicolette Sheridan really did look pretty. She looks like she can't really move her face, and her taste in men is way questionable, but I loved the dress.

Oh, and Mandy Moore? When you're going someplace nice, try to get your hair done for the event. Your hairstyle looked like mine when I go to the gym. You know... if I went to the gym.

Anyway, those are my thoughts. Defamer covers everything else.

Brittany Murphy engaged

Brittany Murphy is reportedly engaged to Joe Macaluso, who was a production assistant on her movie, "Little Black Book." Congratulations! At least something good came out of making that movie....

Proof: Gwyneth in the family way

Gwyneth Paltrow has also decided to come clean and admit her pregnancy, as well. This is Baby #2 for her and husband Chris Martin. I could very easily make some sort of fruit/baby name joke here, but you get the idea.

Mason?

Melissa Joan Hart gave birth to a bouncing baby boy yesterday, and named him Mason Walter Wilkerson. Yikes.

Here's hoping MJH loses that baby weight quickly!

PS -- What's with the photo that accompanies this link? Was that her yearbook picture?

I'm sure this went over well...

It turns out that earlier reports that Brad Pitt had called Jennifer Aniston to let her know that he and Angelina Jolie are expecting a baby were false. Her publicist told "Extra" that there were no such phone calls.

So, I'm thinking yesterday's news of Angelina being pregnant went over like a lead balloon in the Aniston household...

1.11.2006

Knocked up!!

Well, the rumors have been confirmed: Angelina Jolie is having Brad Pitt's baby.

Aaaaaaand... I'm already over it.

Shut UP!!!

It was announced today that Hilary Swank and Chad Lowe have separated after 8 years of marriage. I'm really bummed to hear this. I always thought these two were so cute together.

Fun With Dick and Jane

I picked up this week's Us Weekly today, and while reading their "Loose Talk" section, I came across the funniest quote from Tea Leoni about having a girl before a boy: "If you have a girl first, you know, they're like angels and very crystal-clear eyes... And then, you know, you have your boy, and you'll look down at him and you'll think, Is he retarded?" I found this to be especially funny just because my sister and brother-in-law always say that about my nephew who was born after my niece... they always say he's the retarded one in the family. Poor kid. ;-)

In related news, I am going to see Fun With Dick and Jane this Wednesday with one of my best friends from college. We always try to make it a point to see all Jim Carrey's stupid-funny stuff together, and from what I heard, I won't be disappointed.

I know, I know...

I have SUCKED at posting lately... I promise, next week I will be back on track.

In other news, it has come to my attention that Meg White of the White Stripes will be the new model for Marc Jacobs. How freaking cool is that???

Happy 2006!

Happy New Year, everyone!! I know I've been really terrible about posting lately, but I just haven't been around to do it. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season!

So, 2005 has ended. I can't believe how quickly the year flew by! And so much has happened, especially in the celebrity world. To recap it all would take just about forever, but head on over to Pink is the New Blog, because really -- who better to recap the year in celebrity than my man, Trent???

However, I do want to steal a page from Trent -- he gave his list of best new music for 2005, and I'd like to give my own as well. And here they are!

It had been awhile since we'd seen or heard anything from Oasis, aside from a poorly advised sell-out to Victoria's Secret using one of their songs in a commercial. But the boys were back this year with Don't Believe The Truth, which was hands-down one of their best releases. I used to be Oasis' biggest champion back in the day, and I'm happy to be there again!

I just received this live Wilco CD for Christmas, and it has not been out of my CD player ever since. It's fantastic, and a definite must-own for any Wilco fan. The sound is so tight that you forget it's live after awhile.

I don't feel like you can ever really go wrong with a Nine Inch Nails. I know a lot of people feel that Trent Reznor has run his course and all his stuff sounds the same, but I really disagree. His music has matured with him, and I find myself liking Nine Inch Nails more and more with each new release.

For the longest time I stayed away from Jack Johnson, because I was under the impression he was another one of those cheesy trying-to-be-deep ballad singers; a Mr. Sensitive-Ponytail-Man without the ponytail, if you will. But the boyfriend bought this CD a few months ago, and I found that I couldn't get enough of it. It's a very happy CD, and I find that I can be in the worst mood, but listening to this disc will cheer me up. Also, he reminds me a lot of Jonathon Richman, whom I like a lot.

As you all know, I was addicted to the show, but I became very addicted to the second volume of the Six Feet Under soundtrack after the show ended. I bought it because I couldn't get Sia's beautiful song, "Breathe Me," out of my head after the series finale aired, but I was pleasantly surprised by the entire CD.

I love Beck. He's always so creative, and you know that whenever you purchase a Beck CD, it's going to be something unusual. Guero was no exception. It's exceptionally more upbeat than his Sea Change album (don't get me wrong, I thought that was great, too), but there's still a lot of depth there -- you can especially hear it in songs like "Missing" and "Earthquake Weather." Plus, his duet with Jack White -- "Go It Alone" -- is amazing.

These guys are a mix of old-school Rolling Stones, a little bit of Beatles, some of the Verve and perhaps even a little Oasis -- how can you go wrong?

I'm with Trent on this one -- a lot of people think Liz Phair is selling out, but I also think, like Trent, that she's growing. There's still no one like her on the music scene.

I got into this group awhile ago when I first heard their disc, Electric Version, so I was really excited when I read they were releasing a new album. Twin Cinema definitely did not disappoint, though I still prefer Electric Version of the two.

Last but certainly not least, my favorite release of 2005: The White Stripes' Get Behind Me Satan. These two just don't stop rocking.

Also, some honorable mentions:

Coldplay, X&Y -- A lot of the same stuff we've come to expect from Chris Martin and the gang, but as the saying goes: If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Foo Fighters, In Your Honor -- Everyone I know who bought this double-disc was really into the acoustic side, and felt that the first disc was more of the same old Foo Fighters. However, for me, the acoustic disc put me to sleep, while I thought the first disc rocked. Unfortunately, the title song has been forever ruined to me due to its connection to the "Breaking Bonaduce" episode that featured it. Oh, well.

So that's it! If there's any others I may have left off the list, feel free to comment!
