I got the following for Christmas. Here are my thoughts:

DVD: Family Guy, Seasons 1 & 2: Seriously, one of the funniest shows on television. I'm so happy they've brought it back to Fox. I have been firmly planted in front of my DVD player since I got it, laughing my ass off.

DVD: Elf: I'll watch Will Ferrell in anything. And honestly, can you think of anyone else who would've been as funny in that role?
"SANTA!!!!!!!!!!!"

CD: U2, How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb: I have to say, I'm really enjoying this. When I bought "All That You Can't Leave Behind," I'll admit that I was kind of disappointed. (I know it's almost considered blasphemy to say something like that about an established band such as this). But this effort is much more like their old school stuff. I haven't taken it out of my CD player in my car since I first put it in there.

CD: Loretta Lynn: Van Lear Rose: This CD was produced by Jack White of the White Stripes, and the quality shows. There's definitely a reason this disc has made it onto everyone's "Best of 2004" lists.

CD: Maroon 5: Songs About Jane: Kind of disappointing, actually. I held out in buying this for awhile, because I wanted to hear something else on the radio besides "This Love." When I heard "She Will Be Loved" and "Sunday Morning," I had high hopes. But the rest of it is kind of a letdown.

CD: Johnny Cash at Folsom Prison: I have had a growing fascination with the Man in Black for about the last two years. I read Mailer's "The Executioner's Song" and they mentioned how he made a call to Gary Gilmore on Death Row right before his death, and I found that really an interesting twist, however small. This disc is amazing, though. If you own no other Cash discs, get this one. I guarantee you'll be entertained.

CD: The Beach Boys: Pet Sounds: Kind of an obvious classic, but one I've never had the privilege of owning until now. It doesn't get any better than this.

And a few I bought both before and after the holidays:

CD: Ray!: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack: The funny thing is, I never even saw the movie. But I love this CD! It's so much fun, and I could listen to "Hallelujah I Love Her So" about 20 times a day.

CD: Gwen Stefani: Love, Angel, Music, Baby: I have an unfair bias on this release because I adore Gwen Stefani and think everything she touches turns to gold. This solo effort is such a blast, although not without its cringe-worthy moments (i.e. The "MEOW" at the beginning of "Harajuku Girls," not to mention the phrase "a fatal attraction to cuteness" at the end of it, among others). Still, there's no love lost between me and Gwen... I'm still addicted to this CD.

DVD: Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy: I know a lot of people who actually thought this was the dumbest movie ever. I, on the other hand, found it to be hysterical. As I mentioned before, I'd watch Will Ferrell in anything. He's hilarious.
